Not a stage with a DJ. Not a sound camp running a schedule of acts. A real club, built on live players, open instruments, and the kind of magic you cannot plan.
While the rest of the playa moves to electronic bass, we keep the horns warm and the Rhodes mostly in tune.

Yes. Playa Jazz Café has brought live jazz to Black Rock City for over two decades. It is a real jazz club, not a sound camp with DJs: live players, acoustic and electric instruments, an open stage, and a different set every night. In 2026 you will find us at Center Camp Plaza @ 7:15.
Center Camp Plaza @ 7:15. The camp has moved around Center Camp over the years: Rod's Road, 6:15, 9:30, 5:15. In 2026 it is back on the plaza.
No. There are no tickets and no cover. If you are in Black Rock City you can walk in, sit down and listen. There are no headliners either.
The house band takes the stage around 10 PM and the open jam runs until 2 AM, sometimes later. Daytime brings jazz workshops, listening sessions and specialty brunches, roughly 2 PM to 5 PM.
Yes, and you do not need to sign up for anything. Bring your horn, get into the tent and call a tune. Conservatory players and dusty amateurs share the same stage, and there is almost no hierarchy and no audition.
